Tournament #2 May 31, 2003 Mississippi River Pool 13
The 2nd tournament of the year for District 73 was almost a copy of the first, at least as far as weather was concerned. We launched at 5:15am and the wind blew hard all day, which made a good deal of the pool unfishable. Turnout was light due to the windy weather, participation in the Illinois Federation tournament, and it was graduation weekend in Iowa. We did manage a slight improvement in numbers, however, since the last tournament.
Everyone was looking to get out of the wind again, but this time the fish seemed to be out of the wind as well. The top stringer was 8.80lbs, which was a little smaller than last time, but the majority of the anglers brought fish to the scale.
Bill Sutton of East Dubuque, IL took 1st place fishing the Spring Lake area. Bill brought 4 fish to the scale for a total of 8.8lbs anchored by the big bass of the tournament at 3.71lbs.
Mark Behnke of Dubuque, IA took 2nd place honors with 3 fish weighing a total of 6.6lbs. 3rd place went to Mike Blaesi of Donahue, IA with 3 fish weighing 5.34lbs. JJ Patton took 4th with 4.1lbs followed by Elliot Wamsley with 1.83lbs.
Thanks once again to the district sponsors for the tackle packs we gave away after weigh-in; Strictly Bass Lures and Gander Mountain. Also, thanks to everyone who came out for this tournament and I hope to see you at our next one on Saturday June 21st. I'm sure since we have had our share of wind this year and we will be blessed with good weather this time.
