District 73 2003 Tournament Results
2003 Super Tournament September 20-21, 2003 Mississippi River Pool 13
The final tournament for 2003 for district 73 was tough for most. There were large numbers of fish caught by everyone but the keepers were hard to find. No one found concentration of keepers. They were all picked up here and there with no real pattern established. Two cold fronts moved in one on Friday and the second was coming through just at weigh-in on Sunday. The fish were concentrated due to the low water but the strike zone was very small.
Bill Sutton of Dubuque, IA brought in an amazing stringer weighing 20.33lbs. This claimed 1st place for him and sealed Angler of the Year honors as well. Bill managed his fish off rock piles and the edges of dying vegitation. He had to cover large areas to find keeper fish. Eventhough he ran away with it he says it was not an easy weekend.
2nd place went to Ken Warren of Olin, IA with 4 bass weighing 6.73lbs. Ken caught his bass in Savanna Slough and off main river rip-rap using white I.T. Spinnerbaits from Strictly Bass Lures and flipping white twin-tail grubs. Ken says it was a fun weekend but it got aggravating wading through 30 or more short fish to find the 4 keepers.
3rd place fell to Mike Blaesi of Donahue, IA. Mike failed to find keepers the first day but brought in 2 fish on Sunday in spite of having motor problems which took him out of competition for a few hours. Mike also manage to find the big fish of the weekend. Thanks once again to the district sponsors: Strictly Bass Lures and Gander Mountain. Also, thanks to everyone who came out for this tournament and I hope to see you at the National Championship on Kentucky Lake in October. Hopefully good weather and fishing will continue...
