Two days of constantly changing conditions made it
tough for our anglers to nail down a pattern. Day 1 started with fog and
the threat of rain that came to soak us the majority of the day. Current
was slow and water temps were in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. Day 2,
however, brought a rise of at least a foot in the water levels and a
major increase in current flow. All in all it was the anglers who could
adapt that brought it to the scales.
Our winner and Angler of the Year is Rick Cloninger. Rick weighed only 4
fish for the two day event but with a big fish of 3.74 and another that
weighed 3.23, he had more than enough to win. Rick spent most of Day 1
in the main channel fishing near wingdams, Day 2 he pulled his lone
keeper on a crankbait, off of wood in a back water area.
Second place went to Todd Osborn who weighed 5 fish for the two days,
but couldn’t get the big bite to beat Rick. Todd spent almost all of his
time in back waters fishing various techniques.
Third place was edged out by Roger Koopman who junk fished his way to 2
fish for 3.59lbs. Roger with this weight and finish also picked up our
Rookie of the Year Award.
