District 73 2006 Season Tournament Results

Tournament #1 September 10th, 2005 Mississippi River Pool 11

The Eastern Iowa district of the American Bass Anglers held the 1st tournament of the 2006 season on Saturday September 10th, 2005 on pool 11 of the Mississippi River. The day started out foggy but turned sunny and warm. Water temp was in the low 70's and river conditions were murky with moderate current. In general fishing was tough. Keepers were hard to find but there was no shortage of short fish.

First place was claimed by Ryan Christoffer of Waterloo, IA. Ryan spent the day in the upper portion of the pool and found a way to make the keepers bite. He reported he had to back off the bank and throw crankbaits to submerged grass that most anglers missed. At the end of the day Ryan boated 4 keepers for 8.7lbs and claimed Big Bass with a 2.92lb largemouth.

Second place fell to Ken Warren of Olin, IA with 3 fish weighing 5.16lbs. Ken said he knew he needed to find grass if he wanted keepers but because gas was so expensive he was too conservative and tried to locate fish closer to the ramp and didn't make the long run to the lower end until it was too late in the day to catch a limit. He only brought back 3 fish. His fish were caught on a green Invader Jig and a River FINatic spinnerbait both from Strictly Bass Lures around patches of emergent grass.

Third went to Ken's partner for the day, Jeremia Matz with 2 fish at 3.73lbs.
