Mississippi River Pool 19

The Mississippi River has been high, muddy, and nasty but she finally relaxed enough that we could begin our season with some good fishing. There were good numbers of fish caught by all but the bigger fish proved harder to find this weekend. The water temp is in the 60's and there is very little grass available yet on the pool. This seems to have the pool about a month behind normal yearly conditions and the bass seem to be just now spawning.

At the top of the field we find David Fritts with a limit weighing 12.86lbs. Most of his fish were caught on a spinnerbait throughout the day and a couple others fell to a sweet beaver. David felt all of his fish were staging for the spawn. He is sponsored by Watkins Marine in Pekin.

Former angler-of-the-year for the division, Scott Seager brought in five weighing 12.12lbs for a second place finish.

Third place was Roger Ward with another limit weighing 12.07lbs and the tournament big bass was caught by Dave Knutstrom with a 3.8lbs largemouth.
